Take responsibility of your own happiness, never put it in other people’s hands.
Roy T. Bennett
From our birth until our death, we are faced with fears, obligations, strengths and weaknesses. They are what make us human and an individual.
Then we see, that during this lifetime, a few people are, what we call, successful and happy. And a others in a peril.
For the ease of life, people have also started guiding us through videos, audios and quotes on how we can become like them. They talk about responsibilities, accountability, grit, perseverance, discipline, focus and many more.
Each one of these listed qualities are important to become more of what you want. And the most important one, that begins this journey of success, is responsibility.
Now, why responsibility?
Why not grit, or discipline, or focus, or moral?
After questioning myself about this, I came to the conclusion that, without having the idea of what responsibilities lay with you, why would you act?
And on what will you act?
So, basically, knowing my responsibilities was necessary. This gives me an idea of what other things, actions, responsibilities i have to say no to.
But it was difficult for me to find what actually were my responsibilities. Were they being a good son? Or a better brother? Or a better friend?
These responsibilties are also important and necessary.
But they still clouded the idea of what I want to become and create.
People don’t say how to become more responsible. First, I let go of all the responsibilities that I felt were my responsibilities. Or the responsibilities that the mass thinks are.
So, I began saying ‘no’ to almost everything that I felt were my responsibilities but they would not have a greater impact if not done. Just saying ‘no’ to the work that I felt was important or the obligations towards people that put them first. Like writing my college journal or working in a group project.
Saying no cleared up the mess of responsibilities and put ahead of me the actual responsibilities.
This is a slow and painful process that requires action and saying no to your habits as well that are not going to help you get better.
